Sometimes you get an idea for a new design, but not all ideas are as you imagined and so you pull up all the yarn and start something new instead.

SEE ALSO: Crochet Jacket Free Pattern to do in 2020

But this time, my shawl idea actually became just as I had imagined and it is a wonderful feeling. The pattern is varied so that something happens on every lap and I like that.

It makes the crocheting itself more fun 🙂 To give the design a name I always find difficult, but this one was eventually named Sunset Orchids.

The shawl in the picture is made of barely a new Scheepjes Whirl color 767 from Favoritgarner. A lovely blend of light pastels.
The size of the shawl in that yarn will be about 143 cm at the top and 76 cm above the “spine”. I used crochet hook 3.5 for my shawl.

Katia Bombay from Favorit yarns also fits nicely in making the shawl. I made my first sample of the design in that yarn and then I used color in 2011.
Det är den sjalen ni ser på bilden nedanför. Det går åt ca 4 nystan av det garnet.

It is very rare that a crochet design I have in my head comes out exactly the way I have planned. It usually takes a lot of frogging, frustration and rethinking before it actually becomes something at all.

This time though, it actually came out almost exactly the way I had planned it in my head. I named it Sunset Orchids and I hope you will like it as much as I do.

The original is made in Scheepjes Whirl colour 767, but in the pdf-pattern you can also find alternative yarn. The size is approximately 143 cm wide and 74 cm from the neck and down. Get you donwload now and do!

The first version that we are sharing with you is from Red Heart. It’s hard to believe that it’s a free pattern but it is and what a stunner. We love the ribbed neck and the open lace detail that is featured in the arms and the back. This will earn you plenty of compliments, guaranteed.

The colours of Crochet Jacket can be changed according to your taste, and the best thing is that we can apply one or more colours, but to change the colours you should certainly be experienced, in case you don’t make one colour but use two or more colours. Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial from Riley Blake and Amy Smart

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial
Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial is Right before I left for England, I finished piecing my Meet the Maker sampler quilt and got it too my quilter. I’m so excited to share the finished quilt and share with you how to make your own sampler quilt!

This quilt is made up of 5 different star block designs and 1 repeating setting block. I have links to instructions for all six quilt blocks below. I love the way the red Irish Chain blocks create a repeat design that sets off all of the other pieced blocks!

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial
Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial from Riley Blake and Amy Smart

This wonderful work by Riley Blake and Amy Smart is in several stages that below in free PDF for you to download, so UNDERSTAND THAT: there are 7 PDF’s for you to download. However, if you are an intermediate level, make sure you do not need to download all of them, just the main one or in this case, the block you are in doubt with!

This quilt was made using fabrics from my first two fabric collections, a combination of Gingham Girls and Sunnyside Avenue. The two lines were always designed to play well together and I love the finished result!

This quilt finishes at 64″ x 84″

Fabric requirements include:

  • about 2 yards of white background fabric
  • 1st border (red): 1/4 yard
  • 2nd border (navy): 1 yard
  • Binding (green): 1/2 yard
  • Backing: 5 yards

This quilt pattern is a great one for using up favorite fabrics and scraps. All of the blocks in this quilt finish at 10″ x 10″, so it would also work for using up orphan 10″ x 10″ quilt blocks too!

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial
Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial

Make 17 patchwork blocks using any combination of these 5 tutorials. (Or incorporate any 10″ x 10″ blocks that you like.) All of these blocks are part of the Riley Blake Meet the Makers series.

Here is my variety of pieced blocks before I assembled them. I loved playing with scrappy color combinations. If you look at them now, you can see that I only used the color red as an accent color in these blocks. That’s because I was planning to use red as my dominant color in my off-setting block. (heh heh! Aren’t I clever?)

The off-setting block in this quilt is an Irish Chain Block. You’ll need to make 18 of these blocks for this throw-size quilt.

Once all of the blocks are created, lay out the blocks 5 blocks across, 7 rows down. Start with an Irish Chain block and alternate with the star blocks.

Here is how the first two rows will appear. Sew blocks together by rows and press seams toward the Irish Chain blocks. This will help the seams nest together when you start sewing the rows together.

The borders I used for this quilt are as follows:

1st border: cut 6 white strips 2 1/2″ x WOF (width of fabric). I also cut 4 navy 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares to use as cornerstones for this border

2nd border: cut 7 strips (red) 2″ x WOF

3rd border: cut 7 strips (navy)

This is the method that I use for adding borders to a quilt. It’s simple and always provides perfect results. The key is the pinning – don’t skip that part! That’s what will give you nice square quilt without waves in the borders.

Here is the method I use for basting a quilt and preparing it for quilting. You can quilt it on your own machine or by hand. Or, you can do what I did – have it done by Melissa of Sew Shabby Quilting.  I like that this quilt has a bit of a retro-vibe so I had her do a traditional Baptist Fan overall design.

Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial
Free Sampler Quilt Tutorial

Here’s a peek at the back of my quilt. I did a pieced back using my red apple fabric and the red hearts from Sunnyside Ave and the woven red gingham from Riley Blake Designs.

There you go! I had fun taking this quilt to a local favorite spot for some beauty shots before all the autumn leaves are gone. Best time of the year!

Post Edit: A few people have asked if there is a printable version of this quilt. This time I’m afraid there is not. The reason this pattern is free is because all of the star blocks are provided by Riley Blake Designs. As such the videos/patterns are their intellectual property, not mine.

But their sharing is what makes this pattern free, so that is the trade off. Thanks for understanding. If you’d like to save this pattern for later use, pin the above image to help you find this post later!

Also, the idea of kits was mentioned in a comment. I’m considering putting a few together. Please leave a comment if you’d be interested in a kit (it would probably only be for the quilt blocks) and I’ll contact you if/when they are available.

This tutorial has a total of 6 PDF’s for you to download, plus the videos, so we strongly advise you to download all the tutorials. REMEMBER THAT THIS MAGNIFICENT TUTORIAL IS NOT OURS AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE ALL OF IT ON THE SITE: diaryofaquilter.com, here you can see all tutorial with videos.

Liquorice Blouse free pattern in PDF

Liquorice Blouse is a blouse that although it may seem difficult to make it is actually quite simple to make if you follow the PDF and instructions correctly. Another interesting and remarkable detail about this blouse, is that it looks very beautiful with only shades of black with white, this left the blouse beautiful and wearable for any occasion.

Another fact that called attention in these models is the ease of wearing the blouse, because you can wear it both on cold days, and on days that are not so hot, the fact that the collar is opened and leaves the shoulders more relaxing, which allows its use even over another thinner blouse.

Liquorice Blouse free pattern in PDF
Liquorice Blouse free pattern in PDF

Liquorice Blouse

Now if you don’t like the colors used by our author of this wonderful pattern, you can use the colors of your preference, so basically only the colors will change. But then a question arises that I’m an evangelical and I don’t like to wear this kind of blouse with this collar open, what can I do?

In this case the most suitable is for you to follow the pattern and try to close the blouse collar, thus closing what you want, but as stated above, you can wear a blouse underneath the skin tone, black or white that will match perfectly with your decision or need to wear, after all who decides the use in the end is you who will do.

Liquorice Blouse also allows you to make a kind of knots at the end, which if you wear a jeans or skirt is a perfect match, so when making your blouse we ask you to be aware of what clothes will be worn, so that your outfits do not look ugly.

Now that you know the blouse you need to know who made it! That’s right, this wonderful Liquorice Blouse was designed by Katerine Crochet, In the PDF you will find more details about the author and this will help you learn more about Katerine’s tastes and how I become a big fan of her wonderful work.

Citrus Mint Baby Quilt
Citrus Mint Baby Quilt

Citrus Mint Baby Quilt Although this adorable quilt was originally created for babies, the pattern and fabrics are so fun, you may want to adapt it to a size you can wrap up in yourself. This quilt is made with half snowball quilt blocks. Of course, Lindsay shows you exactly what to do in case they’re new to you. Do you love quick baby quilts?

One of our most popular posts of all time on Craft Buds is my Quick Triangles Baby Quilt, and I was inspired by that project to design another free baby quilt pattern that’s great for beginners as well as experienced quilters looking for a weekend project!

Citrus Mint Baby Quilt – 1 Beautiful Free Tutorial in PDF

Lindsay says,

“The colors of this quilt were inspired by a design seeds color palette my friends picked for their little girl’s nursery. I really loved the citrus and mint colors paired with a soft cream, but you can make this quilt in a variety of colors and it would look beautiful! If you have trouble picking a color palette for your quilt, try choosing two or three colors that work well together and pairing it with a neutral like white or grey. (One of my favorite go-to color combos is yellow, aqua and grey.)” Citrus Mint Baby Quilt.

“The block we’ll be sewing is called a half snowball quilt block. A full snowball quilt block uses the same technique, but with all four corners getting the triangle. This half snowball tutorial will show you how to make this block, which you can use in all kinds of projects! I hope you enjoy this free quilt pattern.”

Skill Level: Beginner

Finished Size: 36 1/2 in. x 42 1/2 in. (93 cm. x 108 cm.)

This half snowball tutorial will show you how to make this block, which you can use in all kinds of projects! I hope you enjoy this free quilt pattern.
Finished quilt 36 1/2″ x 42 1/2″

Materials:

– 9 to 12 fat eighths (each makes 3 blocks), fat quarters (each makes 6 blocks) or large scraps of colored fabric in three color groups (like yellow, orange, and mint green)
– 1/2 yard of cream or white fabric for the small diamonds
– 1/3 yard of binding fabric
– Crib size batting
– 1 1/2 yards backing fabric

Cutting:

– Cut 42 squares of colored fabric 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″
– Cut 84 squares of cream fabric 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
– Cut 4 strips 2 1/2″ x 44″ (width of fabric) for binding

Now you can download this PDF with the standard very well explained, which we sincerely believe that even a beginner will be able to do without too many difficulties, and if you are already experienced, you can change some details to your liking. My idea at first when I finish making mine is to put it on the quilt bar, or in the four corners a detail, like a lace ruffle or embroidery to make the quilt even more striking for my baby and all love that Citrus Mint Baby Quilt.

Scrappy Happy Burgoyne Surrounded 2020

Scrappy Happy Burgoyne is such a wonderful quilt to be seen in the images below and throughout this article how wonderful it is to make it, at least that’s what I think. I was looking for something colorful to make some 4 identical pieces to give to a daycare that is in need and blankets and bedspreads.

You’ve probably already thought about making a donation so you know my feeling for doing that.
My brother who is also wanting to help in these donations will participate with a few dollars to buy the fabrics I need as well as other things to donate for the daycare and for the children who need more.

The Afghan Crochet Quilt Patterns Free PDF is a kind of very beautiful crochet work to put on our bed or on the bed of our sons or daughters, to give and sell if you in this case work with the production and sale of crochet. This crochet quilt pattern work also gives us the idea to do it for use in other ways. If a crochet pattern calls for the Afghan stitch, it’s usually referring to the basic Afghan stitch. Basic Afghan stitches are shaped like little squares with two horizontal strands of yarn and a vertical bar on top of them.

For example this same model that is made we can use to make a blanket, a small crochet frame, a treadmill, pillow or pillow covers, and even a crochet pattern for chair or couch covers. The Afghan stitch calls for a unique hook. With the Afghan stitch, you pick up a whole row of stitches on the hook before you work off the loops on a second pass. To accommodate all these stitches, you need a hook with a cap or a stopper on the end to hold the stitches. Afghan hooks are longer, too, coming in a variety of lengths and sizes.

It can be made for office, apartment, no matter where you want to use it, what matters is how wonderful its design is. The goal is yes for baby, but let’s face it I found it very beautiful that we’re really about to do it for us, but as I’m on another project for the next 2 months then I’ll have to wait a bit, to do it.

But if you want to make it, it’s very nice and you won’t regret making this beautiful blanket.  Gently steam block edging for a defined lace edge, do not over steam.

This baby blanket is easy enough for total beginners to crochet. That said, it’s still a great pattern for advanced crocheters. It works well when ever you need a fast baby blanket crochet pattern. Maybe there’s a last minute baby shower or you’re behind on your Christmas crafting; this is a blanket that works up quickly.

You will find patterns in different colors and styles, suitable for both boys and girls. They can be created as gifts and are also perfect to donate to hospitals and charities. Most of these crochet blanket patterns also work as lapghans, so you can gift them to nursing homes, not just to babies.
